Greek theater is coming to New York this fall.
An original Greek production of Sophocles’ Electra, which premiered at the legendary Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, will make its U.S. screen premiere at Symphony Space.
Directed by Dimitris Tarlow, the production takes one of ancient Greece’s most enduring tragedies and reimagines it as a dark cabaret. After its premiere at Epidaurus, the production was adapted for an indoor stage before being captured for the screen.
The one-night event at Symphony Space’s Peter Jay Sharp Theatre offers New York audiences a chance to experience a contemporary Greek interpretation of Sophocles — without the flight to Athens.
Following the screening, director Dimitris Tarlow will join the audience in person for a Q&A, giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the production and its journey from Epidaurus to the screen.
